Problem: Rebrand Eddie’s Attic’s Bi-Annual Songwriter’s Open Mic Shootouts

My Solution: Use inspiration from 1970’s psychedelic concert posters to create an illustrative design with stretched text

During my third year at UGA, I joined an organization called Talking Dog, which is the campus’s premier student advertising agency. And, I luckily received Decatur’s famous music lounge, Eddie’s Attic, as my client! For my first big project, I was tasked with rebranding their important 51st Bi-Annual Open Mic event where winners of their weekly Monday open mic nights compete to win $1000. Since they wanted something completely different from their past designs, I had complete freedom!

Because their venue has a vintage vibe, I knew I wanted to take inspiration from old design posters, and I knew that 1970’s psychadelic Woodstock-esque concert posters would be something really fun for their events! I was influenced most by a specific Pink Floyd poster that had stretched text and swirly design elements, so I took those pieces and also infused it with some illustration because it dominates my personal practice! Luckily the client was so impressed with the design, that they want to keep it for all future Shootouts. So, when they asked for a 52nd Shootout event design, I only changed the color scheme and some elements!

This was also a great learning experience, as I had to make different versions of the designs for social media and print!
