Problem: Design an illustrated portrait in a unique style.
My Solution: Portray Rina Sawayama using organic shapes!
I wanted to illustrate one of my favorite female artists; but, the caveat with this one was that I wanted to try and create a unique portrait style that didn’t rely on any design trends that I had seen, such as triangle portraits.
So, I began with her beautiful lips and worked outwards, making organic shapes that followed the different values of the picture. I then elevated the color stories through utilizing gradients in her outfit, head wraps, and nails to create more dynamic visuals. Through this portrait, I solidified my style and haven’t looked back!
